The Legend Behind the Slogan
Skippy's Route 66 Restaurant was born out of a love for two things: great cooking and the unique community of Leasburg. We believe that a restaurant should be more than just a place to eat; it should be a landmark where memories are made and stories are shared.
Our journey began with a simple mission: to honor the legacy of Route 66 by keeping the spirit of the classic American diner alive. We don’t believe in shortcuts. We believe in fresh ingredients, generous portions, and a kitchen that treats every plate with respect. From our signature comfort dishes to our friendly Missouri hospitality, every detail at Skippy’s reflects our commitment to the people who walk through our doors. We’ve built our reputation on being a place where "Good People" can always find a "Good Meal."
If you're cruising down the "Main Street of America" or just passing through Crawford County, there is one sign you can’t miss: "Good Food For Good People." Located right at Exit 214 off I-44, Skippy's has been a staple of Leasburg, MO, for over 25 years, offering a warm welcome and a hearty meal to everyone who walks through the door.
Skippy’s is more than just a diner; it’s a survivor with deep roots. Originally the Coachlight Inn (opened in 1970), it was transformed into Skippy’s in 2000 by owner Skip Sheleski. Even after a major fire in 2016, the restaurant was rebuilt with beautiful stone and timber, proving that the spirit of Route 66 hospitality is impossible to extinguish.
The Atmosphere: The interior strikes a perfect balance between a rustic roadhouse and a cozy family diner. You’ll find a full-service bar illuminated by neon beer signs and a pool table for a bit of friendly competition.
The Feel: It is a 100% smoke-free environment indoors, making it great for families. If you prefer the fresh air, there’s a spacious open patio where you can enjoy the Missouri breeze. It’s the kind of place where the owners are often on-site, personally welcoming old friends and new travelers.
Come hungry, because the portions here are as big as the hospitality:
Legendary Fried Chicken: This is the gold standard. The secret is keeping the chicken on ice until it's hand-breaded and fried, making it incredibly moist with a crackling golden crust. Pair it with their hand-mashed potatoes and savory milk gravy.
Walleye & Fish: Their Walleye is a fan favorite, often cited as some of the best in the region.
Roadhouse Classics: From half-pound Angus burgers and freshly cut steaks to their signature "Toasted Ravioli" (a Missouri must-try!), the menu is a love letter to American comfort food.
Happy Hour: Swing by between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM (Tuesday–Friday) for great deals at the bar.
Easy Access: With nearly 3 acres of property, there is plenty of room for RVs, motorcycles, and large travel groups.
Catering & Carry-Out: If you’re heading to the nearby Meramec River or a local campsite, you can grab your meal to go!
